who we are
St. Peter Parish Independence Committee
A Parish Independence Committee is established in each parish, with the primary objective of achieving maximum community participation in Independence celebrations
The Committee is responsible for the encouragement and promotion of activities within St. Peter, particularly in the month of March (Parish Month) and November, to bring about an awareness of independence and nation-building. Activities must reflect unique aspects of the parish
Committees are encouraged to source persons from each district to represent the interest of that district
our programme
Parish Ambassadors' Programme
The Parish Ambassadors' Programme started in 1997 and was the brainchild of the St. James Parish Independence Committee. The objective of the Parish Ambassadors' Programme is to develop a positive sense of self among young people and a strong commitment to their communities and the nation.
Parish Ambassadors are selected for a period of one year. To be eligible for selection, persons must be between the ages of 18-30 years and must reside in the parish in which they are seeking selection and show a willingness to participate in a programme that seeks to uplift the nation.
Training for Ambassadors
The training for the Ambassadors is to stimulate the minds and awareness, leading to personal development and greater commitment to the improvement of communities and the nation. Areas of training include; Etiquette/Good Manners, Poise/Grooming, Communication, Public Speaking, Knowledge of My Parish and Mobilizing the Community.
Parish Projects
The Parish Independence Committees, along with the Parish Ambassadors, create and work with an exciting community project throughout their tenure. These project range from those addressing social needs to environmental concerns within the community. Several of these projects have gained national and international recognition over the years. The parish projects are assessed systematically and on an on-going basis.
Spirit of The Nation Show
At the end of their training and exposure, the Parish Ambassadors are brought together at the Spirit of the Nation Show to showcase and highlight their experience and to promote the uniqueness of their parish as they appear in costume and formal wear and give a short presentation about their Parish Project for the year.
